Notes:
Tuition - Student exchange agreements between the U of A and foreign institutions stipulate that outbound U of A students pay for 15 hours of U of A tuition & on campus fees during their term abroad. Students are charged according to their major/college tuition rates. Students enroll in courses at a foreign institution

Airfare - Students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements.

Meals - This budget assumes a $150/week budget for food. Depending on the student's housing choices and personal habits, this can be highly variable

Books - Books, supplies & supplemental course fees can vary widely by academic program and destination.

Personal Expenses - Personal spending habits vary greatly. Students should budget for personal travel and activities, laundry and toiletry items, and other necessities.

Room & Board - Students studying abroad through Exchange partner schools will be largely independent during their semester abroad. Students are solely responsible for obtaining housing and are liable for 100% of housing expenses. Exchange institutions provide on-campus housing, or references for students to secure housing through recommended student coops, homestay families, or other private options. Availability varies by destination, but students can always refer to recommendations provided by the host institution. This figure assumes $800 euro/month for 4 months, which is on the higher end of prices in the city.

Health Insurance - International Health Insurance is required to obtain a student visa and enroll in academic programs in this country. This figure assumes 5 months of coverage from the University of Arkansas provider, Cultural Insurance (CISI). The study abroad office will enroll students in this plan and provide proof of coverage. All travelers should maintain their regular US coverage while abroad.

Visa - Spanish Visa applications can be complicated and lengthy. At this time, an in-person appointment to obtain biometrics (fingerprinting) is required to submit a Spanish Visa application. Students will need to make an appointment with the nearest Spanish Consulate (Houston, TX) as soon as they are admitted to this program. Instructions and application tips will be given to students upon program admission. Fees listed here include approximately $150 in visa expenses, plus travel to Houston.

Passport - $165 is the approximate total cost of a new passport. Immigration requirements for most study abroad destinations require that a student's passport be valid for at least 6 months AFTER the conclusion of their study abroad program.  Expediting a passport application can be more expensive.

Immunizations - The Office of Study Abroad recommends all students to the Pat Walker Health Center Immunization & Travel Clinic. Students can review travel recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and confirm that they are up to date on all required or recommended vaccinations. Contact the Travel Clinic at 479-575-7723.

Local Transportation – This estimate assumes $40-50 on public transportation around the community where students study.
