Since the Europe Tour is offered every other year, applications open early-September for the summer 2018 term.

Once applications open, click the "Apply Now" button at the top of the page to begin. Once your application is completed, your application will be reviewed and a decision will be made. You will be notified of the decision through the HogsAbroad portal.

If you don't yet have your passport, don't worry! You do not need a physical copy of your passport in order to apply for the program. However, if you don't already have a passport, please be proactive and begin your passport application today.



 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

AMPD Italy 6
Apparel Merchandising and Product Development (AMPD) students will have the opportunity to broaden their international knowledge of the apparel industry by participating in this study tour. Students will visit manufacturers and designers, as well as local museums, in Rome, Florence, & Milan. This study tour course provides an on-site study of the Italian fashion manufacturers and markets. The course will examine the design, production, distribution and retailing of fashion goods from couture fashion to mass Italian markets.





 

ELIGIBILITY

Students must:
  • Course pre-requisite is AMPD 4901 with a C or better. 
  • Complete a minimum of 24 credit hours by the beginning of the program abroad
  • Possess a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better at the time of application

               AMPD 491V(H)   Apparel Studies Study Tour

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
A 13-day field study of Italy’s fashion markets for apparel merchandising and product.  Course examines the design, production, distribution and retailing of fashion goods from couture fashion to mass markets.  

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
• To gain an awareness and appreciation of the vastness of the Italian fashion market.
• To examine the role and responsibilities of the designer, manufacturer, and retailer.
• To observe processes in the development and production of fashion goods.
• To observe and become familiar with the role of wholesalers and wholesale markets at an international level.
• To examine marketing techniques used at an international level within the fashion industry.
• To examine methods of promoting and selling fashion products by trade advisory associations and the fashion press.
• To identify trends in design and fashion production, wholesaling and retail marketing.
• To explore career alternatives in the fields of design and fashion, including the qualifications, responsibilities, rewards and trends. 

EXCURSIONS

Faculty leaders have worked with the AMPD Advisory Board over the past 16 years and have developed networking opportunities and relationships with the members. These relationships have opened the door to many of the appointments available to students on the study tours. Students will participate in a guided tour of the Vatican and St. Peter's Basilica, and will visit the Coliseum, Roman Forum, Palantine Hill, and Trevi Fountain.

SCHOLARSHIPS & FINANCIAL AID

Financial aid and scholarships are available to U of A students.

In many cases, you can also use your current scholarships and financial aid to help finance your program. If you receive scholarships, grants, or loans as a U of A student, please contact your Financial Aid Advisor in Silas Hunt Hall (479-575-3806) to see how much of your current aid package you’ll be able to utilize towards this summer study abroad program or to apply for loans. Participants on this program may also be eligible to apply for these institutional and national scholarships below. Criteria for scholarships vary, and students should read eligibility requirements carefully.
