Notes:
Tuition - When students enroll directly at a foreign institution, they are responsible for paying tuition and fees according to the prices set forth by that school.  The University of Newcastle is a U of A institutional partner. Students should note that the UoN fees are billed in Australian Dollars (AUD).  

Airfare - Students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements.  
 
Meals - 
This budget assumes a $150/week budget for food. Depending on the student's housing choices and personal habits, this can be highly variable 
 
Books -
Books, supplies & supplemental course fees can vary widely by academic program and destination. 
 
Personal Expenses - 
Personal spending habits vary greatly. Students should budget for personal travel and activities, cell phone plans, laundry, toiletry items, and other necessities.  
 
Room & Board - Students studying abroad through Exchange partner schools will be largely independent during their semester abroad. Students are solely responsible for obtaining housing and are liable for 100% of housing expenses. Exchange institutions provide on-campus housing, or references for students to secure housing through recommended student coops, homestay families, or other private options. Availability varies by destination, but students can always refer to recommendations provided by the host institution.  
 
Health Insurance - 
Students studying in Australia are required to purchase OSHC, Overseas Student Health Coverage, from the Australian National Health Services. This is facilitated through the University of Newcastle and billed to students directly. All exchange students will also be enrolled the University of Arkansas policy through CISI for comprehensive international coverage including medical evacuation, repatriation of remains, and emergency support.  

 
Visa - 
Students apply for a Visa from Australia after they have been admitted to the University. This process is online. Details are provided by the host institution after students are admitted.  
 
Passport - 
$165 is the approximate total cost of a new passport. Immigration requirements for most study abroad destinations require that a student's passport be valid for at least 6 months AFTER the conclusion of their study abroad program.  Expediting a passport application can be more expensive. 
 
Immunization - 
The Office of Study Abroad recommends all students to the Pat Walker Health Center Immunization & Travel Clinic. Students can review travel recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and confirm that they are up to date on all required or recommended vaccinations. Contact the Travel Clinic at 479-575-7723.  
 
Local Transportation - 
Previous students estimated they spend $40-$50 per month on public transportation around the city and local area.
