Program Description:

Arcadia - Pembroke Cambridge
Experience an 800-year legacy at one of the world’s best institutions

At the Pembroke Cambridge Summer Program at the University of Cambridge, you’ll experience the academic rigor of a Cambridge student along with over 250 international students. You’ll be able to take courses in world literature, history, science, philosophy, economics, film, art history, behavioral ecology, and more. You’ll take a total of three courses, each of which is focused on a lecture or seminar program—an affordable option if you want to earn strong credits over the summer. If you’re excited about the possibilities of an academic experience abroad at one of the world’s oldest and most renowned universities, this may be a good program option.

  • You’ll benefit from the same teaching style, content, and standard from British faculty that full-time Cambridge students receive during the year; notably, the Supervision System, which is the cornerstone of the Cambridge academic program and highly regarded as one of the best teaching models. Supervision consists of intensive weekly meetings with your assigned tutor, who may explain specific points from lectures, offer criticism on your written work, debate ideas, and direct you toward research materials.

  • Take your studies further and swap one of your courses with independent supervision. The tailored one-to-one teaching gives you the opportunity to complete an independent research project on a topic of your choosing.

  • Experience Cambridge as it might have been in centuries past—you’ll have the opportunity to attend Formal Halls (offered twice during the summer), which are formal dinners in medieval halls by candlelight. You’ll make friends easily at the daily events and activities organized as part of the program.

  • Situated in the beautiful medieval city of Cambridge, you’ll be just one hour from London by train yet still enjoy the intimacy and pride of a city with a small-town vibe. Relax in Parker’s Piece, a 25-acre common with walking and cycling paths where modern football (soccer!) was born (the first set of rules—The Cambridge Rules—were drawn up by members of the university in 1848). It also hosts several annual fairs, such as the Cambridge Folk Festival, the Cambridge Beer Festival, the Cambridge Film Festival, and the Cambridge Arts Theatre.

  • Travel to fascinating places of interest that enhance your cultural immersion and give a meaningful context to your academic courses through Arcadia's planned Excursions and Activities.
