Innovative research projects at a world-class institution

This innovative research program brings you to Dublin, Ireland, to one of Europe’s leading research-intensive institutions, University College Dublin (UCD). Ranked within the top 1% of institutions worldwide by the Times Higher Education rankings, UCD has the facilities and faculty to support your research program in the UCD O’Brien Center for Science.

A variety of innovative research projects are offered in key areas of study: biology, chemistry, computer science, geological sciences, and ecology. You will conduct your independent research alongside academics and Ph.D. students with expertise in areas such as molecular biology, particle physics, synthetic chemistry, and data analytics.

Spending your summer conducting independent research in your STEM field of choice with leading experts in Ireland will add a fascinating dimension to your resume when applying for graduate school or a career in the field. The young and lively city of Dublin is thriving in summer with many exciting cultural opportunities.

  • This is a highly competitive program with limited places so please apply early to increase your chances of acceptance onto the program.

  • You will engage in faculty-supervised, hands-on research projects with results that will culminate in the preparation of a research paper.

  • You will need to complete a brief Literature Review in consultation with your research supervisor prior to departure before the start of the program.

  • Faculty mentors will work closely with you to direct your continued growth and knowledge development in the chosen research topic discipline.

  • The Arcadia Dublin Center staff will be on-hand to support you and ensure that you also find time to meet Irish people and enjoy their rich culture, strengthening your understanding of this fascinating country.

  • The full range of facilities at UCD’s leafy Dublin campus will be at your disposal: clubs and societies of all kinds and a prime location to help you explore everything Dublin and Ireland have to offer.

  • Prior project examples include: Genetic and pharmacological determinants of vision (using zebrafish to early onset model blindness); The effects of trauma-induced neuroinflammation on Alzheimer's disease-related pathology; and Automating digital forensic evidence analysis through deep learning.

  • Travel to fascinating places of interest that enhance your cultural immersion and give a meaningful context to your academic courses, through Arcadia's planned Excursions and Activities.
