Intensive research with valuable experience for graduate school and beyond

Are you a STEM undergraduate yearning to study abroad but worried that you can’t due to curriculum difficulties and schedules? Look no further than this innovative summer research program from the University of Glasgow, which is consistently ranked among the UK’s top universities. Spend six weeks this summer earning six credits while engaged in significant independent research at a world-class research university. This is a great opportunity to receive mentorship from leading researchers while boosting your resume and academic experience - without interrupting your academic schedule at your home school. Such work and experience will resonate strongly with both employers and graduate schools. This program offers a variety of summer research projects available in the following fields: life sciences, chemistry, and psychology.

  • Past research projects include: Using C. Elegans as a Model Organism for Genetic Screens; Sensory Perception and Neurodiversity; Bedrock Erosion by Moving Grains: Direct Measurements Using Intelligent Pebble; and BioNano Sensing

  • This is a highly competitive program with limited places so please apply early to increase your chances of acceptance onto the program.

  • You will engage in faculty-supervised, hands-on research projects with results that will culminate in the preparation of a research paper.

  • You will need to complete a brief Literature Review in consultation with your research supervisor prior to departure before the start of the program.

  • Faculty mentors will work closely with you to direct your continued growth and knowledge development in the chosen research topic discipline.

  • The Arcadia Edinburgh Center staff will be on-hand to support you and ensure that you also find time to engage with Scottish people and culture, strengthening your understanding of this fascinating country. The staff plans Excursions and Activities to enhance your cultural immersion and give a meaningful context to your academic courses.

  • The International Summer School at the University of Glasgow has a full social program of extra-curricular activities to help you find your feet in Scotland and enjoy the local attractions. Such activities may include a trip into the Highlands, visits to Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument, day trips to Edinburgh, the Fife Coast, and St. Andrews as well as movie nights, quizzes, and other social gatherings.
