Program Information:
Charles University is nestled among Prague’s winding streets, charming red rooftops, and sweeping bridges. As a student in our Summer in Prague – Charles University Program, you’ll get a well rounded Liberal Arts education, access to the university’s thriving student life, and easily be able to travel to other European hotspots – on a budget.

Here are just a few of the program's many highlights to look forward to:
  • A program designed to ground your studies the history and culture of Central Europe
Super-engaged Site Director, a professional photographer who likes to lead photo-shoots with her students
  • Day-trips around Prague: Past trips include going to the Pilsner Factory and a river cruise on the Vltava River
  • Live in one of Europe’s most beautiful capital cities
  • Active campus community with 30+ student association and athletics
  • Easy access to other European countries, especially Hungary, Germany, Austria, and Poland
Academics:
Located in the heart of beautiful Prague, Charles University is one of the oldest universities in the world (founded in 1348) and the top-ranked university in the Czech Republic. Nearly 50,000 students are enrolled in more than 300 accredited degree programmes. Renowned for its commitment to research, Charles University can boast a number of outstanding research teams which are involved in close collaboration with international research institutions. Students can also become involved in the University’s research work at each of the individual faculties.

Outside of the classroom, students can take advantage of the college’s 30+ student associations (including drama and music societies) and participate in several city-wide sports competitions alongside their Czech peers. There’s an annual team marathon, a rowing and an ice hockey competition between the city’s universities, a summer sports program for students with disabilities, and more. For those looking to sit back and relax, check out the Tuesday night film screenings in the Blue Auditorium and get sneak peeks at films before their official release!

Highlights of Local Life:
  • Farmers Markets: Visit any one of the numerous farmers markets that take place around the city most weekends in the warmer months. Or venture out to Naplavka, the recently renovated riverbank close to the city center where you’ll find crowds of locals, expats and tourists alike out for a walk, bike ride or shopping. Even if you’re just relaxing with a drink and taking in an open air concert, Naplavka is always great fun.
  • Sports events: Take in a hockey or football game by Prague's local team, “Sparta Praha.”
  • Escape Room: A popular pastime all over the world, this new trendy game involves working as a team to solve puzzles and decoding hints to escape/exit the room before the hour is up.
Cooking classes: Learn to cook a traditional three-course Czech meal and then feast on it with your fellow cooks!
  • Beer Garden: There is no shortage of these popular “watering holes” both inside and outside Prague. However, arguably, the best beer garden in Prague with views overlooking the city is Letna Beer Gardens. The beer garden offers plentiful seating, picnic tables under the trees and under canopies beside Letenske Zamecek. They have both beer and cider on tap as well as hot food and snacks.
